What is FUE Hair Transplant?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the modern gold standard in hair transplant surgery. Individual follicular units — naturally occurring groups of 1–4 hair follicles — are extracted directly from the donor area (typically the back and sides of the scalp) using a micro-punch tool, and transplanted to the thinning or bald recipient areas.

Unlike the older FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation or strip method), FUE does not require a linear incision. This means no linear scar, faster recovery, less post-operative discomfort, and the ability to wear shorter hairstyles after healing.

Why Physician-Performed FUE is Different

In the overwhelming majority of hair transplant centres across Bangalore — including many well-marketed ones — the surgical steps of the procedure are performed by trained technicians, not doctors. The physician may be present for a consultation, but the extraction, channel creation and graft placement are carried out by non-medical staff.

At Dinaaz, Dr. Nazia Iqbal MD personally performs every single step — from the initial hairline design through the final graft placement. This is not a marketing claim; it is our clinical standard.

6 Steps Only a Physician Should Perform
01
Hairline Design

Artistic and anatomical precision by a physician. A natural-looking hairline that ages well cannot be templated or delegated. It requires understanding of facial aesthetics, bone structure and hair dynamics.

02
Graft Harvesting (Extraction)

FUE extraction with maximum follicle survival requires surgeon-level depth perception, punch selection and extraction angle control. Technician extraction commonly results in higher transection (follicle damage) rates.

03
Recipient Channel Creation

Depth, direction and angle of the channels created in the recipient area determines the entire natural appearance of the transplanted hair — it requires surgical judgement that cannot be replicated through training courses.

04
Graft Placement

Correct graft orientation, density distribution and placement density require experience and anatomical understanding that goes beyond what technician training provides.

05
Intraoperative Complication Management

Only a licensed physician can immediately recognise and respond to any intraoperative complications — vascular events, graft viability decisions, patient haemodynamic changes.

06
Personalised Post-Operative Protocol

Dr. Nazia tailors every aspect of the post-operative protocol — medications, washing instructions, follow-up schedule, complementary GFC sessions — specifically to each patient.

The FUE Procedure — Step by Step

The procedure begins with a detailed pre-operative consultation where Dr. Nazia assesses your donor density, recipient area, Norwood scale classification and overall health. A personalised hairline design is drawn and approved collaboratively with the patient.

On the day of the procedure, the donor area is trimmed and local anaesthesia administered. Dr. Nazia extracts each follicular unit individually using a precision micro-punch. The grafts are kept in a chilled preservation solution while the recipient area is prepared — channels are created at the precise depth, angle and direction that will produce the most natural result.

Graft placement follows: each follicular unit is carefully inserted into its channel in the correct orientation. The entire procedure takes 6–10 hours as a single-day outpatient procedure.

Recovery & What to Expect

Day 1–5

Mild swelling, small crusts at graft sites. Rest recommended. No strenuous activity.

Day 5–10

Crusts begin to fall. Return to desk work typically at Day 5–7.

Week 2–4

Grafts begin to shed (shock loss phase). This is completely normal — the follicle root remains intact.

Month 3–4

New hair begins to emerge. Fine, soft initially, then progressively thickening.

Month 6–8

Visible density and texture improvement. Most patients see substantial coverage.

Month 12

Full result. Transplanted hair is permanent — it will not fall to pattern baldness.

FUE + GFC — The Combination Protocol

Dr. Nazia recommends combining FUE with GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) therapy in most cases. GFC — a concentrated extract of growth factors derived from your own blood — is applied to the scalp during the FUE procedure or injected into the scalp shortly after. Clinical evidence supports significantly improved graft survival, faster healing, reduced post-operative shedding and stimulation of surrounding native hair when GFC is added to an FUE protocol.

Continued GFC or PRP sessions at 3, 6 and 9 months post-transplant help maintain the native hair alongside the transplanted grafts, producing a denser and more natural long-term outcome.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the FUE hair transplant performed by Dr. Nazia or by technicians?

Every single step — hairline design, FUE extraction, channel creation and graft placement — is performed personally by Dr. Nazia Iqbal MD. This is non-negotiable at Dinaaz. No surgical steps are delegated to unqualified technicians, which is the standard at most hair transplant centres in Bangalore.

How many grafts can be transplanted in a single FUE session?

Typically 2,000–4,000 grafts in a single session depending on your donor density and the extent of the recipient area. Dr. Nazia assesses this individually and recommends the graft count required for your specific baldness pattern after a clinical examination.

How long does the FUE procedure take?

A full FUE session takes 6–10 hours as a single-day procedure under local anaesthesia. You can usually return home the same evening.

When will I see hair growing after the FUE transplant?

Transplanted grafts typically shed at 2–4 weeks post-procedure — this is completely normal and expected. New growth begins at 3–4 months, with significant density visible by 6–8 months and full results at 12 months.

What is the recovery time after FUE hair transplant?

Most patients return to desk work in 5–7 days. Strenuous activity and sun exposure should be avoided for 2–3 weeks. Dr. Nazia provides a complete post-operative care protocol at the time of the procedure.

Is FUE suitable for women as well?

Yes. Dr. Nazia performs FUE hair transplants for female pattern hair loss, hairline restoration and eyebrow reconstruction (Eyebrow Cloning). The technique is modified based on the specific pattern and donor area availability.

Does FUE leave a scar?

FUE leaves only tiny, dot-like punch scars in the donor area that are virtually invisible — even with closely cropped hair. There is no linear scar, unlike FUT (strip) surgery.

Can I combine FUE with PRP or GFC for better results?

Yes — and Dr. Nazia frequently recommends this. A GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) session administered to the scalp during or shortly after FUE accelerates graft healing, improves survival rates and stimulates surrounding native hair. It is one of the most impactful complementary protocols available.

How do I know how many grafts I need?

This cannot be determined without a clinical assessment. Dr. Nazia evaluates your Norwood scale classification, donor density, recipient area size and hair characteristics before recommending a graft count. We do not quote packages without this assessment.

How much does FUE hair transplant cost at Dinaaz?

Cost depends on the graft count required, which varies by individual. We share pricing transparently after the clinical consultation. We do not quote pre-set packages without examining the patient — doing so would be clinically irresponsible.
